On behalf of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development, we would like to thank you for taking part in this important project. Our purpose is to identify those Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) which significantly contribute to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations for 2015.
This survey is a preparatory step towards creating a Matrix of ICT Solutions for Advancement of the Millennium Development Goals - the principal focus of the Global Alliance's work in 2010. We aim to create a web-based knowledge repository to link the vast mass of knowledge, information and experience accumulated over recent years on the actual and potential uses of ICT to boost development, in a practical and user-friendly manner, for development practitioners.
This knowledge repository will contain information about ICT-based tools and solutions that have been proven in practice, are scalable, replicable and self-sustainable in terms of resources. At this stage, we do not collect information about innovations, technologies and projects that may have potential but have not yet been put to practice.
Building such a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge repository is an ambitious task that can only be accomplished as a "grand collaboration" of diverse stakeholders: governments and businesses, academic institutions and development practitioners, international organizations and civil society.
We invite you to become a participant in this global collaboration by sharing with us one example of ICTs which you believe had a positive impact towards achieving an MDG (or several MDGs) that you are most familiar with.
