5th Meeting of the Consultative Committee on Scientific & Technological Development & Technologies
The ICT Division of ESCWA is organizing the 5th Meeting of the Consultative Committee on Scientific and Technological Development and Technological Innovation (ESTIC) during 29-30 March 2010, at the UN-House in Beirut, Lebanon. The meeting outcome and recommendations would be submitted to the 26th ESCWA ministerial session that will take place in May 2010.
The 5th ESTIC meeting aims to:
- Review the ICTD's achievements during 2008-2009, work programme for 2010-2011, and strategic framework for 2012-2013;
- Follow-up on the Resolution 284 adopted by the 25th ministerial session in 2008, regarding the establishment and launching of the ESCWA Regional Technology Centre in Jordan;
- Address the impact of ICT and other technologies on climate change.
Topics addressed:
- Implementation of the recommendations of the 4th ESTIC meeting;
- Establishment of the ESCWA Regional Technology Centre for Development, including selection process, hosting agreement, and opening;
- ICTD activities in promoting the establishment of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Observatories in the region;
- Follow-up to and implementation of the WSIS outcomes in Western Asia;
- Developmental impact of technologies including ICT on climate change;
- ICTD activities implemented during 2008-2009, and work programme for 2010-2011; and
- Proposed strategic framework for 2012-2013.
The meeting will involve the participation of distinguished experts in STI, including ICT, from academic institutions, research centres, governmental institutions, ministries and enterprises engaged in innovative activities, as well as representatives of international and regional development agencies. The working languages are both English and Arabic, noting that simultaneous interpretation will not be provided.
