The Global Innovation Forum for Education and Development provides a platform for several hundred young people across the globe to advance their causes toward achieving the MDGs through ICT. The forum is set to encourage young people to get engaged in, and develop and propose new ICT initiatives that innovatively advance local communities in various emerging regions.
Area experts from private and public sectors and selected young participants are invited to showcase their successful ICT practices during the four interactive days. The forum will highlight new innovations in ICT and new ground-breaking business models and methods that successfully address the developmental needs in different societies.
The event will bring together technology experts and senior IT executives from the private and public sectors, including key decision makers and officials from the United Nations system as well as representatives from academia and civil society.
Mayors and representatives from the world’s swelling cities will meet at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 23 and 24 April to consider how innovative technologies can meet the environmental challenges posed by the rapid growth of urban areas.
With urban regions experiencing rapid population growth -— 2008 will mark the first time in human history that more than half of the world’s population will be living in cities -- mayors are looking for practical solutions to improve living conditions and confront climate change while preventing inequity and exclusion.
Joint ITU and G3ict Forum 2008 on “The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Challenges and Opportunities for ICT Standards"
The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is one of the fastest human rights treaties ever adopted. It was developed with the active participation of country delegations and NGOs representing persons with disabilities, and includes a number of detailed mandates related to accessible and assistive Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
The 8th Infopoverty World Conference: "Low Cost-Smart Technologies to fight poverty and save the planet" will be held on April 16-18, 2008 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. It will be a multi-conference event connected with Milan (Politecnico and the European Parliament Office), Paris (UNESCO), Madagascar (Sambaina Village), and other locations.
New Media, New Entrepreneurs and New ICT Opportunities in Emerging Markets
The Global Alliance for ICT and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA-GAID) organized an event, entitled "United Nations Meets Web 2.0 - New Media, New Entrepreneurs and New ICT Opportunities in Emerging Markets", on 25-26 March 2008, in Conference Room IV of the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This event was second in a series of intimate, interactive and action-oriented meetings organized by UNDESA-GAID with ICT leaders, who create new and innovative technologies.
The conference is to be jointly organized by the Global Alliance for ICT and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA-GAID, the UN-HABITAT, the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter and the Regional Plan Association.
eINDIA2008, the fourth annual ICT4D forum in India will be convened at New Delhi 29-31 July 2008. The three days forum aims to render active conferencing, networking and showcasing while organising six seminal tracks- egov INDIA, Digital Learning INDIA, Telecentre Forum INDIA, eHealth INDIA, mServe INDIA, eAgriculture INDIA and i4d film festival.
A seminar organized by the Global Alliance for Information and Communication Technologies and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA GAID), the Inter- American Development Bank, the IDRC-ICA and ECLAC, will take place from 4-5 February 2008 at the Radisson Hotel in San Salvador, preceding the II Ministerial Conference on the Information Society eLAC2007.
