Twelve innovative projects taking Africa forward in the field of information technology were rewarded for their enterprise at a glittering ceremony in Addis Ababa on Tuesday night.
The first ever Technology in Government in Africa (TIGA) awards were handed out by the main sponsors of the event, the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the Canadian government, in recognition of achievements that have led to changes at national, regional or provincial level.
Meeting the networking needs of the Pan-African eLearning and distance education sector, the annual eLearning Africa conference is the key networking venue for practitioners and professionals from Africa and all over the world.
eLA 2007 will have a number of exciting features that extend the scope and outreach of the conference, adding value for both presenters and attendees:
A high-level policy maker and industry leader summit entitled "Accelerating the Building of ICT Infrastructures and Capacities for African Educational Systems"
A report by Goldman Sachs stated that between 2007 and 2020 India will see a structural increase in potential growth to nearly 8%, four times increase in productivity in industry and services as compared to agriculture, four times increase in GDP per capita, and house ten of the fastest growing cities in the world. This report has identified investment to information technology, openness to trade and greater financial deepening as the key drivers to this accelerating growth.
Informative and UN-GAID Website setup. This work will start in spring 2007 and be finished during summer 2007. Engaged partners will primarily be UN-GAID, Lund University and Microsoft Education but with intense consultation with the other partners.
The community of expertise will share experience and practice-led expertise around two main themes: first, concerning issues of distance learning implementation (contexts, learners and technologies), and second, on how mobile learning technologies can be integrated into the e-learning environment and help to address emerging issues including digital exclusion, student learning and support in different parts of the world.
