In this Inaugural year, GAID's energies have focused on (a) developing and operationalizing an appropriate organizational structure, (b) defining its areas of priority and developing its business plan, (c) building collaborative links and (d) raising awareness of the Alliance.

GAID has laid a firm foundation for future activities having (i) established its governance mechanisms; (ii) agreed its mission and objectives; (iii) approved its areas of focus and a business plan for 2006-2007; (iv) begun forming the organizational framework for partnerships through which the Alliance aims to leverage the resources, know- how, energy and will of various stakeholders to meet its objectives; (v) organized several successful meetings and engaged in other outreach activities; and (vi) undertaken preparations for planned 2007 activities. The report concludes with (vii) a brief assessment of GAID's progress.
