NewIndPress: E-governance gaining ground in rural areas in India

Every third village in the State would be equipped with Internet-enabled kiosks within 11 months, as part of the State's e-governance programme, said C Chandramouli, State Information Technology (IT) secretary, here on Thursday.

Talking to journalists, he said the government would set up 5,400 Internet-enabled kiosks in the State. Chandramouli was here to inaugurate the inter-collegiate techno-cultural festival ‘Mindcraft ‘08’ at Karunya University.

“Every government office has e-governance facility, which can now be availed of by villagers also,” he said, and added that they would be set up before March 2009.
