In online discussions within the UNDESA-GAID constituency, members of the Global Alliance stressed the importance of further engaging the broader ICT for Development community in an open manner. They also recommended more outreach in existing ICT for Development venues to inform the community about UNDESA-GAID and its activities, noting that the cluster of events on WSIS follow-up presented an excellent opportunity to report on the outcome of the UNDESA-GAID Global Forum on Connectivity and Access and Least Developed Countries and Small Islands Developing States in Asia-Pacific and on Innovative Financing Mechanisms for ICT for Development, that would have just taken place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In this context, the GAID Secretariat is organizing an Open Consultation on the UNDESA Global Alliance for ICT and Development hosted by the International Telecommunication Union at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of this consultation is to brainstorm on UNDESA-GAID activities, their integration within the follow-up to WSIS and the broader United Nations Development Agenda and effective outreach mechanisms to the ICT for Development Community. In order to ensure broad multi-stakeholder participation, for those who will not be able to join the meeting in person, the meeting will be webcast. In addition the conference call system will be provided. This meeting will be held in conjunction with a cluster of WSIS-related events (13-29 May 2007) surrounding World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (17 May).
