The Global Alliance for Enhancing Access to and Application of Scientific Data in Developing Countries (e-SDDC) of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development (UN GAID) was launched on 7 May 2007 in Atibaia, Brazil. The meeting was co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) Task Group on Preservation of and Access to Scientific Data in Developing Countries (TGDC/CODATA), the Environmental Reference Information Center of Brazil (CRIA), the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF), the Consultant Committee on ICT for the UN of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CCIT/CAST), and the Chinese Association of the Internet (CAI). More than thirty leaders and experts from scientific data and information resources communities from around the world participated in the meeting.
