The Economic Times: Ericsson takes e-governance to villages

For those of us who live in the comforts of urban India, modern technology may be a way of life. But now, the benefits of high-speed internet and telecom are also reaching the people who may need them the most.

In a pioneering initiative, telecom major Ericsson along with its partners has launched the 'Gramjyoti Rural Broadband Project' in the village of Vadugambadi in Tamil Nadu, 60 kms from Chennai.

The pilot project seeks to introduce the benefits of WCDMA/HSPA technology in rural India and connect communities to high-speed internet services.
