FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INTERNATIONAL TASKFORCE ON WOMEN AND ICTS & UN GLOBAL ALLIANCE FOR ICT & DEVELOPMENT (GAID) PARTNER TO PROMOTE GLOBAL ICTS PROGRAMS

Sunday, December 11, 2007 – Tuesday, December 13, 2007

WHY

The U.S. Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), which serves as the secretariat for an international network of like-minded organizations called the International Taskforce for Women and ICTs (ITF) and the UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) has extended an invitation to ICT program representatives around the world to have a presence in the GK3 Market of Opportunities(MoO). This is the expo for the 3rd Annual Global Knowledge Partnership event named Global Knowledge Conference (GK3) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. GK3 will bring together over 2,000 visionaries, international leaders, practitioners and policy-makers to engage on the theme of Emerging People, Emerging Markets, Emerging Technologies.

HOW

During the three day GK3 event, contributing organizations will have the opportunity to display posters, presentations, distribute printed materials and brochures in the ITF/UNGAID MoO tent from 9:00 am – 7:00 pm. This collaborative effort will provide a venue and voice for many global ICT initiatives and/or programs that promote girls and women. Organizations may participate in the GK3 event in person or by providing their materials if unable to attend. Activities will also include verbal presentations of current ICT projects, initiatives or case studies; slide shows; mini documentaries; briefing sessions; and demonstrations of innovative applications of technology.

"We are happy to support projects that enable or empower women, their families, and communities using ICTs," stated Claudia Morrell, Executive Director for the U.S. Center for Women in Technology, "our hope is that this effort will build awareness of women's contribution in the knowledge society as an important part of the development process."
