Enterprises' competitiveness through the use of ICTs

The objective of this activity is to create a community of practice to permit entrepreneurs, public authorities, NGOs, academics and all other agents to identify the barriers faced by enterprises in investing in ICTs and to share knowledge about policies and actions that bolster enterprises' - particularly SMEs - competitiveness through the use of ICTs.

Objectives

1. Increasing the returns to investment of information and communication technologies. This involves reducing access costs and enhancing the benefits of such investments;
2. Reinforcing the network effects of ICTs by adopting conducive business environment policies, strengthening supply chains and inducing competitiveness and local value added in different economic sectors; and
3. Promoting sound managerial practices through training of entrepreneurs and disseminating good practice tools.

Deliverables

  1. Inventory of successful experiences in:
    1. training of entrepreneurs in the use of ICTs,
    2. steps required to increase innovation and productivity through the use of ICTs,
    3. strategies to promote access to ICTs, and
    4. policies to enhance both the positive environment for SMEs and the network effects required to disseminate ICTs;
  2. Directory of institutions and experts dealing with the issues mentioned above;
  3. Catalogue of manuals and tools to enhance enterprises' effective use of ICTs;
  4. Portal to other ICTs for SMEs and business development services sites;
  5. Forums and chat rooms to allow for dialogue on the above issues.
