iMarketSpace Minimize

The Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID) in Monterrey, Mexico will be a truly global and dynamic event and will be attended by policy makers, United Nations high-level representatives, technologists, academics, educators, business leaders, social entrepreneurs, the civil society and young leaders. During the three-day meeting, the attendants will engage in active conversations in the field of ICT for Education, participate in interactive, multi-stakeholder panel discussions, showcase their ICT-for-development projects and network.

The iMarketSpace is one of the key elements of this meeting intended as an interactive exhibit space where stakeholders from the ICT for development community can showcase and exhibit their initiatives, projects, ideas, and solutions that leverage on ICT and demonstrate how innovation and emerging technologies can be utilized as enablers of development. The space is also designed to promote small interactive sessions.

Activities that are conceived to be part of the iMarketSpace include: multi-media presentations of projects, initiatives or case studies; slide shows; mini documentaries and demonstrations of innovative technology applications for educational purposes. The iMarketSpace is aimed at facilitating the promotion of new partnerships and exchange of expertise, knowledge and resources in a face-to-face manner.

    Cambridge Skills Award in Information Technology

    • The aim of the Award is to assess a candidate’s ability to use Information Technology effectively when using specific software applications. Within each application area, candidates will be required to enter and manipulate data, work closely to given specifications and successfully complete a range of tasks as specified.

    Global Women and Technology
    Organizer: Women and ICT Taskforce

    • To promote women’s full participation in an inclusive Knowledge Society as leaders and creators, as well as strategic users of ICT. Specifically, to inform about the projects and activities of the ITF and the GWT network of centres under the headings of - Mapping of human and institutional resources, stakeholders, research and educational projects, located in different regions - Measurement and benchmarking to measure progress- Assessment of programs and activities in progress in different regions.

    Description of iMarketSpace

    The iMarketSpace is an open space which will be made available to exhibit and showcase different types of ICT projects, programmes and innovative technologies and applications. In this platform lounges will be set up to allow informal networking and business development among stakeholders and an area with free internet connectivity “internet-space” will also be arranged. Booths will be provided and are equipped with tables, chairs, computer screens and internet connection. If additional material or equipment is needed, please contact Mr. Arturo Barrera, Indigo Brainmedia’s focal point, (see contact details below). Kindly be aware that any additional material or equipment is subject to extra costs. Printed materials, brochures and posters can be delivered in advance to a local address in Monterrey. The relevant information will be posted shortly on the GAID website. The iMarketSpace location is set-up nearby the Global Forum venue and a cafeteria is within immediate vicinity and is expected to attract wide-ranging attention of participants.

    How to Apply

    Due to limited iMarketSpace availabilities, all interested participants are requested to submit an application by 20 April 2009. All applications will be reviewed by the UNDESA-GAID Secretariat, and selections will be made in a two-phase process. In the first phase all applications will be evaluated against a set of established criteria. In the second phase, iMarketSpace slots will be allocated and space will be made available to those applicants who meet the requirements. The Secretariat will provide detailed information to individuals and organizations that were successfully selected. The UNDESA-GAID Secretariat will identify replacements from the remaining pool of applicants in case of withdrawals.

    The iMarketSpace will be launched virtually in advance on the UNDESA-GAID website and will continue “live” for the duration of the Forum.

    Criteria for selection

    Applications will be accepted from individuals and organizations:

    General criteria

    • The organization/individual must demonstrate how ICTs are used to execute its work.
    • The organization/individual must demonstrate recognized expertise in its area(s) of operation.
    • The organization/individual should be open to multi-stakeholder collaboration.

    Thematic criteria

    • The project/initiative/organization should support the attainment of one or more of the Millennium Development Goals and the Millennium Declaration values.
    • Preferably, the project/initiative/organization should be rooted in one or more of the GAID focus areas of education, health, entrepreneurship, and governance.
