Dear Participants,
Welcome to the Special Event on Our Common Humanity in the Information Age: Principles and Values for Development, which will be held in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on 29 November 2006.
The
event is organized by the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and
Development (GAID), in partnership with the Office for ECOSOC Support
and Coordination of the United Nations Department of Economic and
Social Affairs (UN-DESA), United Nations Department of Public
Information (UN-DPI), United Nations Global Compact, United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Fund for International
Partnerships (UNFIP), United Nations Millennium Project, World
Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), Pace University, The
World Bank, Alliance of Civilizations, Congress of Racial Equality
(CORE), Friends of the United Nations, International Institute for
Culture of Peace, International Council for Caring Communities (ICCC),
United Nations Non-Governmental-Organizations Informal Regional Network
(UN- NGO-IRENE) and the World Peace Prayer Society.
Registration
Registration hours are as follows:
8.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.
1.30 p.m. to 2.45 p.m.
Participants
are kindly requested to go to the Visitors' Entrance of the United
Nations Headquarters, located at 46th Street and First Avenue. Please
proceed to the "tent" for security check. You will be asked to present
a picture ID and go through a metal detector. Please allow yourself
enough time to go through this process. We apologize for this
inconvenience and hope for your understanding.
Security badges
Badges will be issued during the aforesaid hours only at the Registration Desk
in the Visitors' Lobby of the General Assembly Building, upon
presentation of a valid picture ID. Participants are required to wear
their badges at all times while in the United Nations' premises. (Please
note that the GAID Secretariat will only issue badges to those who have
confirmed participation by sending in their registration form prior to
the meeting.) Any questions concerning grounds passes can be

Location of meeting
The Plenary meeting will be in Conference Room 4,
located on the First Basement of the Secretariat Building. Staff will
be available to direct you to the meeting rooms. A more detailed
Programme/Agenda will be issued shortly.
Webcast
Discussions in the Plenary will be recorded for subsequent posting on the United Nations website (http://www.un.org/webcast/).
Documentation
Copies
of the programme and relevant documentation will be available during
the Conference. If you have documentation that you wish to be
distributed to other participants, please send an electronic version,
preferably a Word file, to the GAID secretariat. All documents will be
posted in the GAID website at http://www.un-gaid.org/commonhumanity/. (Please note that there will be no facilities in the meeting rooms for typing or photocopying of documents.)

The blog features background information and guide questions for the
purpose of stimulating debate and discussion on the theme of the
meeting. We encourage you to voice your ideas and participate in the
