The Community of Expertise on Wireless for Development (W4D) focuses on tools to support entrepreneurs to foster community and government support for wireless deployments in support of regional economic and social development and deploy W4D projects with the benefit of experiences from other W4D entrepreneurs.
- Documenting the impact of wireless technologies as a driver of social and
economic development of a region
- Identifying and promoting the economic and technical factors leading to
the successful deployments and continued usage of wireless networks and
associated solutions for economic and social development
- Best practices sharing and documenting case studies of the impact of
wireless deployments on local economic growth
- Analyzing and promoting local ICT policies and public private partnerships
models supporting the development of broadband wireless networks
Goals
The Community of Expertise on Wireless for Development (W4D) aims at:
- Bringing together entrepreneurs at a local, national, regional levels from the
public sector, private corporations or academia dedicated to the advancement of wireless technologies and infrastructure solutions fostering economic and social development in their local communities
- Increasing awareness about the potential use of ICT, specifically Wireless
related technologies to reduce poverty, accelerate development, and
improve ICT decisions made by public administrations and citizens/civil
society networks
- Providing a common knowledge platform for information sharing and
dissemination among W4D entrepreneurs and stakeholders
- Promoting and facilitating partnerships for action within the global multistakeholder community engaged in Wireless for Development
- Providing a forum for community advocacy and policy advocacy in the field of Wireless for Development (W4D) and fostering global regional cooperation in support of local projects
