GAID LAC Network Minimize

The UN DESA GAID LAC Network will be the Latin American and Caribbean focal point for the Global Alliance for ICT and Development. The Network will take stock of the current situation in the ICT for Development field in the Region, establish links among stakeholders, help them to coordinate and meet, and identify key areas in order to create an action-oriented agenda. Our objective is to bring together people and organizations from throughout the Region to promote intra and inter-regional collaboration among interested stakeholders.

Mission

The mission of the Global Alliance is to promote ICTs as a tool for development as stated in the Millennium Development Goals (#8) and the World Summit on the Information Society (Tunis Agenda). The GAID-LAC site furthers that goal in Latin America and the Caribbean within the framework set out by the Seminar in San Salvador and the eLAC Plan of Action

The Network will rely on participants who will:

  • Demonstrate leadership in ICT4Development issues
  • Share best practices and knowledge
  • Engage in policy dialogues
  • Share innovative business models for economic growth and empowerment of people

Communication Platform

A Steering Group for the LAC Network will be established to coordinate all relevant activities and to encourage mutually beneficial communication between all stakeholders. One meeting per year is envisaged to sum up and present past actions and decide about the next steps.
